According to Florian Plettenberg, Frankfurt has learned that Ekitic is interested in joining Liverpool.

Florian Plettenberg wrote on social media: "Frankfurt has been informed that Ekitic is interested in joining Liverpool. The Red Army and Ekitic have basically reached an agreement on personal terms."

"As a result of Liverpool's higher offer, Ekitic's transfer to Newcastle has been put on hold. Negotiations between Liverpool and Frankfurt are underway and progress may be fast."
