Chilean striker Sanchez accepted an exclusive interview with the Ass after joining Sevilla. He talked about the reasons why he chose Sevilla and Mero's love for football.
Why did you choose to join Sevilla?
I think this ends a stage in my career and I hope to stay in Europe. I have played here for Barcelona and Manchester United, and I remember that Pisjuan Stadium was one of the hottest I've ever experienced. This is a passionate team. Sevilla is a great club, which is reflected not only in its home court, but also in all the European Championships they have won over the past years.
You didn't play much in Udinese last season, what happened? What are your goals in Seville?
That was a very strange feeling that never happened in my career as Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter. When a coach doesn't let you play, you can do nothing...it's basically it.
I'm not here for a walk. I will try to put the coach (Almeida) in difficult choices and let him see that I can help the team as a main player. People always talk about age... I have been training for 20 years, and after training, I go home and rest for a whole day. What do we need to rest? We are not in the office or moving things under the 40-degree sun. The life of football players is superior. If we are responsible, we can stay in good shape for a long time.
What have you changed as a player since you were called the "Miracle Boy"? How do you maintain your passion for football?
Now I can interpret space better and retrace the ball more. I try to help young people, and that’s what I will do in Seville. Football has given me more experience, many beautiful moments and sad moments. But the joy that football brings me never disappears, and I don’t think it will never disappear.
Some players feel pressure and put pressure on themselves. For me, especially at this stage of my life, I am very grateful for football, and I try not to treat it as a pressure, but as a pleasure. Of course, the premise is to have the highest sense of responsibility to compete for victory.
