Arteta: Arsenal is a club I love and want to continue to develop, Simeone is the winner
Before the game against Atletico Madrid, Arsenal coach Arteta accepted an exclusive interview with "Marca", during which he talked about topics such as the pressure of competing for the title and Simeone. Arsenal currently lead the Premier League and many believe the Gunners are on course to win a major title this season.
Having been the runner-up in the Premier League for three consecutive years, do you feel more pressure to win the championship this year?
"We are used to this kind of pressure. We have created high expectations through our own efforts, which is part of top football. External expectations are beyond our control, but we focus on daily training to ensure that the team is ready for the critical moment in April or May."
Guardiola mentioned that only Manchester City has been questioned about the huge signing fee. What do you think?
"This is a complex question, and it may be that he reacted that way because he is asked this question so often. I think whether a team can be successful depends not only on the cost of signings, but also on many other factors. Many examples in football history have told us."
Premier League clubs will vote on whether to introduce a salary cap system. Do you support it?
"This issue is complex and depends on the specific circumstances. I don't think it is simply for or against a measure, the overall context and long-term impact need to be considered."
Would you agree to a Premier League game in Miami?
"This is not my decision. If I could choose, facing such a dense schedule, I would prefer to play more games in London."
Tomorrow will face Simeone's Atletico Madrid. What do you think of Simeone?
"Impressive. His work at Atletico Madrid has been outstanding and has lasted for a long time. He is a natural winner who constantly improves himself, whether emotionally, competitively or tactically..."
Do you feel that Simeone's style is very different from yours?
"I think it's more about the differences in specific football concepts. As coaches, we actually have a lot of similarities in many aspects."
What do you like most about Simeone?
"His sense of identity. Atletico Madrid is the embodiment of Simeone, and he is conveying the spirit of Atletico Madrid, which is very rare."
Do you hope to coach Arsenal for as long as Simeone did? (Simone 15 years, Arteta 7)
"This is a quality that I value particularly. It is important to inject a sense of identity into the team. I know this is very difficult. In addition, Simeone has also won multiple championships."
Do you think Arsenal or Atletico Madrid is the greater club in history?
"For me, Arsenal is the greatest club in the world because it is a club that I love deeply and want to continue to develop. Statistics and club history are also important, but which is more worth mentioning? The present or the past? The most important thing is that this season let's make Arsenal the greatest team."
